Guest Host for Anything Goes Mondays - Allison from Babco Unlimited

Today’s Guest Host for Anything Goes Monday is Allison from Babco Unlimited.

By day she is a wife to one tech-savvy husband and mother to thee active children. By night she is a quilting superhero! Okay, not really. She doesn’t truly have superpowers, although she’s tricked her kids into thinking she can make just about anything.

She started quilting 7 years ago and life has never been the same since.

It all started when she asked her mom to teach her how to make a quilt. Mother and daughter would meet up weekly to learn about ¼ inch seams, rotary cutters, half-square triangles, and more.

Her first quilt won 1st place in a local quilt show. The quilt was intended for her eldest son, who quickly took credit for the win. Upon learning of the award, he called his dad and said, “Dad. The quilt mom and I made won First Place!”

First place for my first quilt

She volunteers and serves with several quilt guilds. She edits the newsletter for one guild of 275+ quilters; She helped organize a new guild (then promptly moved—so maybe she’ll have to do it again in her new neighborhood); and she helps organize a Quilt Retreat for her State Guild that spans 4 days of quilting classes, luncheons, vendors, and events.

She loves piecing, free motion quilting, and learning new quilting tricks. She will be reopening her Tuesday Tips after the New Year sharing all those quilting tips and tricks that make quilting easy and fun.  So be sure to follow her to discover new tips. Her kryptonite are appliqué and binding. (She is still sore about her near loss at the Battle with Binding.)

I hope you enjoy visiting Allison's blog and remember to link up.

Hi there! Paula here from over at The Sassy Quilter. I am super excited to be guest hosting the Anything Goes Linky Party today. I have been quilting for over 8 years now and blogging for about a year and a half. I am currently trying to save the world! ....one quilt at a time that is. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it:)

I love quilting and sharing this fabulous craft with anyone who is willing to learn. Currently I am working on the Aviatrix Medallion Quilt by Elizabeth Hartman.

This is a new one for me, never done a medallion style quilt before. It's a whole lot of cutting and piecing, but totally worth it seeing it come to life!

So head on over for a visit and link up all your quilty fabulous-ness and I will tell you a little more about myself!

Guest Host for Anything Goes Mondays - Karin from The Quilt Yarn

Todays' guest host for Anything Goes Mondays is Karin from The Quilt Yarn.

She is a 50 something, German, married with two almost grown up daughters, living in sunny Australia. Still working almost full-time she'd rather be quilting all day long (don't we all?)  She started quilting in 2006 and is a self-taught quilter. She is still true to what attracted her to quilting in the first place - scrappy-type, traditional quilts made out of an array of warm, country–type colours. Her favourite quilt would have to be the Country Sampler quilt that she made in 2010 which appeared in Country Threads Vol 12 No. 2 and No. 3.

Country Sampler
The Country Sampler quilt emerged from the idea of depicting her quilting journey from making simple blocks to trying new techniques, incorporating favourite blocks and colours into the quilt. Her style in quilting has not changed that much, although nowadays she tries to challenge herself a bit more and try to step a bit out of her comfort zone every now and then.

She's had a few quilts published in Quilting Magazines in Australia (Autumn Leaves, Australian Patchwork and Quilting, Vol 21, No3; Chicken Patch, Creating Country Threads, Vol 13, No 1; Stars on Stripes, Creating Country Threads, Vol 10, No 10) throughout the years.

Her Disappearing Four Patch Quilt will also be featured in an upcoming issue in the near future.

Disappearing Four Patch
Karin started blogging at the beginning of 2012. This was primarily to connect to other quilters, but also to keep a diary of sorts of the work that she is doing. At that point she had set herself the goal to seriously practice FMQ.  She found that every time she had completed a quilt she had to re-learn FMQ…and as she had not continuously practised, she ended up doing the same old stippling design again and again.

That's when she discovered Leah Day’s blog and as it so happened she was calling for people to participate in a year long FMQ Quilt Along at that stage. This is when she set up her blog ‘The Quilt Yarn’.  Karin really enjoys blogging and participating in events around the net, however she has deliberately kept her blog somewhat restrained as it does take a fair amount of time to post and interact with others and between working , the daily grind and quilting, she had to find that balance that allowed her to do all of those things. She would love to start a Linky Party, however just have not find the time in the last few months, so this is probably something that she will look at later in the year, maybe for the start of the next year…we’ll see.

FMQ has become Karin's other passion…nowadays she usually have a variety of piecing and FMQ projects on the go…all at the same time and the constant dilemma of wanting to do both.

She loves all things feathers!

Karin also managed to set up a modest Craftsy Store last year, selling some of her patterns.  While this is somewhat work intensive, she enjoys designing quilts and writing up patterns, and Craftsy is such a great web site!  Click HERE for a link to her pattern store.

Her latest pattern is a bright and colourful baby quilt, called the Windmill Baby Quilt quilted in an all-over ‘Jester Hat’ design.

Guest Host for Anything Goes Mondays - Heather from Bobbins and Bullets

Today's guest host is Heather from Bobbins and Bullets.  She lives in North Caroline, USA.  She's a stay at home Mom to a 14.5 month old, very active little girl.  She also has a very sweet wheaten terrier named Tessa.  She loves to piece and quilt, and sew clothes for her daughter.  She recently started to sew clothes for herself, but she's not quite ready for prime time yet!

At the time she started blogging she was a helicopter pilot in the Army, hence the name 'Bobbins and Bullets'.  She's no longer in service of the Army, but she kept the name.  I think its great!!!

She loves collecting sewing machines, and do most of her sewing on a 1951 Singer 201.  She also has a Singer Featherweight travel machine, in addition to the big machine you see below.

Heather also has her own long-arm quilting business, called Quilts Actually.  I highly recommend that you visit her website and see her work.  Here are just some of my favourites.
