Great Granny Squared #2 - Sorting Scraps

A couple of weeks ago I started up a Great Granny Squared table runner and in the process of digging  through all of my scraps I realized that if I want to be in charge of this project I needed to take charge.  

My scraps was a total mess, scattered between three bins, large, small and odd shapes of fabric.

That was when I decided to start sorting them before I would carry on with my quilt.  I sorted them according to size, larger fold-able pieces, strips, squares and larger pieces.  Now digging through my scraps is much easier.  At least now I have a clear idea of what I have to work with, and this way NOTHING will go to waste.

I bought some small clear plastic containers and labeled them accordingly.

Once I had all of my scraps sorted I stared piecing up a few more blocks.

This is going to be a fun and colourful little quilt!

I hope you dont mind that for today's feature, I am sharing all from just one linked last week.  I found it very inspirational and too beautiful not to share... Sometimes the simplest ideas and designs can be turned into something wonderful!  

This is exactly what Esther from Ipatch and Quilt shared with us last week, her beautiful and cuddly Hexie Pillow.

Apart from the pillow that is super beautiful, she made these two little quilted embroidery ring wall hangings.  Totally eye catching!!  ...see, very simple yet very creative!

This stunning Tulip Quilt is by Lea Anne from Podunk Pretties.  I was completely drawn to this quilt and just had to share it with you today.  I absolutely LOVE the design and the border is simply amazing, something totally different!

This fun Sewing Machine design is by Deana from Daughters of Dorinda, she has the pattern to this fun block available in her etsy store.

This X Plus Masterpiece is made by Janet from Simply Pieced.  I absolutely LOVE the scrappy look!!

Great Granny Squared #1

I recently purchased both 'Great Granny Squared' and 'Quilty Fun' by Lori Holt from Bee In My Bonnit.  I was completely drawn to the fun, bright and cute designs I've seen on Instagram.  It was hard to decide which pattern from both books I wanted to start with, but chose to start with one of her Great Granny Squared table runners.

So, after cutting all of the background fabric pieces I was ready to start.  I am not working with a direct plan for each block, I just grab some pieces of fabric that I think will go together, cut what I need and start piecing them together.  

For some time I had no idea what I was going to do with all of my fabric scraps that I've accumulated over the past few years, so at least now I will be able to make good use of them.  For the time being I have finished 5, 6½ blocks.
