Basically I have no real direction I want to go with this quilt. I just thought of adding lots of colours and prints to make up a 'flower' design. I still have to make a lot of 'flower' shapes before I'm close to the size I want this quilt. Maybe I'll add either white or black hexagons to outline the flowers, I still have not decided.
My husband is a rugby fanatic, so I think while he is watching his sport over the weekends, it will be a nice way of keeping my hands busy, yet spending time with him. There is no rush to get this quilt done... then it hit me, how will I quilt this???

ReplyDeleteThanks, I have no idea how I will quilt this in the end... I did not think I will enjoy hand sewing and piecing, but its nice, keeps my mind busy.
DeleteGreat color choices. I have a Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt from my Aunt, but it was all handstitched. She stitched on the inside of each piece about 1/4 inch in - looks beautiful on the front and the back. Hmm. I wonder where I put that quilt? When we got the king bed I put it away....
ReplyDeleteI have also thought of stitching on the inside of every piece, maybe travel stitching between them, not to have to brake thread that often, I like the idea, thanks June ♥
DeleteI'm working on a hexagon quilt too. It's all by hand and is taking me forever since I also quilt a lot. I was planning on just stippling the whole thing. I'm no where even close to thinking about quilting but that was my original plan.
ReplyDeleteI am in no rush to finish this quilt, I am very eager to get back to my sewing machine and FMQ my last quilt top. I have so many ideas floating around in my head that I wont be surprised if I end up with 10 different projects at one time... Why cant we have more hours in a day... :-)
DeleteYes hexis do take a long time! I learned this a couple of weeks ago. But I was thinking, I could do a faux hexi quilt. just applique the flowers via zig-zag, to a whole cloth randomly. The FMQ whatever I wanted in between the flowers. Also, make the flowers(hexies) different sizes. That would give the look of a hexi quilt without all of the time. Just an idea floating in my head. I'm sure yours will come out great what ever you do.

DeleteI'm working on a hexagon quilt too but the hexagons are pieced at random. Just thought of sharing a few ideas on quilting a heaxgon quilt - flower outline stitching, hexagon outline stitching, wavy stitching, diamong stitching or maybe cathedral window stitching. I'm sure your quilt will turn out gorgeous looking at your all the FMQ you've done so far.
