Lucky Stars BOM - February "Exploding Star"

We're almost in the middle of February and I almost forgot to make my block for the Lucky Stars block of the month with Don't call me Betsy.

My biggest struggle making this block, was not the piecing, that was rather straight forward.  Deciding on what fabric to use was the hard part.  I am not entirely sure if the three different red fabrics I used really work since they are all the same shade.  I think once we're closer to the end of this BOM series I will know if it works or not.  For now I will stick to it.  Again I used the scraps of the large block to make the 6 inch smaller block.

To see 100's of other BOM others have made go to the flickr group.

I am linking to WIP Wednesdays @ Freshly Pieced.

Happy quilting.

I think your blocks looks great (and I do agree that picking fabrics can be difficult). I like how you did two differnt shades for the background. And with that I think if you used many different reds it would have seemed a bit busy... So in my eyes, you made the right call:)

This is beautiful! I have to say, I haven't seen much of this color combination before but it works really well!

I think the colours work really well. I felt the same about this block with the fabric picking. I don't think there really is a dark, medium and light in the tutorial - they all look pretty medium to me but I followed suit. I love some of the more unique interpretations I am seeing with different patterns formed by using different colours rather than different shades. This is the best bit of a sew along, seeing everyone's work!

Nice star blocks, Marelize! I like the solid backgrounds. Makes the colours in the stars shine. Hmmm, two stars and two tattoos?

No way, that red, blue and gold/yellow is killer together. I love that star block! I just love red and blue together and I think you picked great complimenting/contrasting fabrics!
