Quilt Along #18 - Loopy Line

With a shock I realized this morning that quilt along Wednesday with Leah Day has come and gone.  I have been feeling a bit under the weather lately and have not had much energy to do anything, let alone my favorite pass time -quilting.  I have not sewn or stitched one single thing this week, bad-bad-bad...

So this morning I decided to make an effort, and prepare a practice piece for Quilt Along #18 - Go Loopy With Loopy Line

With regards to my previous post, and the problems I had with the bobbin washers, it became clear after testing different ways of using the bobbin washers, that my machine does NOT agree with this little piece of plastic.

As mentioned before I had numerous needle breaks using it on its own.  So I tried using it after replacing the spring washer back in the bobbin casing, and at 1st I thought everything went okay, but I had the same amount of thread breaks as without it.

I think my machine just does NOT like to go from right to left, especially in straight lines.  I tried it again with circuit board, and because of the problem I'm having I would not be too eager to use the design in a real quilt.

Normally while stippling I have very little thread breaks.  I suppose it has to do with the wiggly- flowing motion, but with straight lines its a completely different story.  So I guess in future, I will use my machine as is, without the washers, I really hoped it would have made a difference..

So coming back to loopy line, here is my practice block.  I enjoyed this design, I suppose its because of the free motion and swirly motion.  I prefer working in rounded shapes rather than straight lines.  After doing the practice lines I quilted loopy line, and tried to incorporate larger and small loops, but as my personal preference, I like them all to be one size.

Happy quilting.

Quilt Along #17 - Circuit Board

I was so happy and eager to get back to the QAL with Leah and super excited to try out the Little Genie Magic Bobbin Washers.

Susan from Quixotic Crafter was so kind to send me 2 bobbin washers in the post, and when I got them I was so excited to try them out. Thanks again Susan, its a selfless gesture that I will never forget

Here is my practice block for QAL #17, you'll notice that I did not finish this, I gave up.  I broke 2 needles and I cant think why or what went wrong.  The circuit board design I found easy, following Leah's instruction made it simple to do, and would definitely want to use or try it again.  But before I sounded like a the worst mannered pirate out there, and I'm sure I did (luckily I was alone :-) ) and before I made some serious damage to my machine I stepped back and decided to stop all together.

My question to Leah is this:
I use a Bernina 180 Artista, and up to now I have had little problems free motion quilting, but after I put in the bobbin washers I broke two new needles minutes after replacing them.  Am I using it wrong?  What I did was, removed the little silver thingy that was in the bobbin, and replaced it with the bobbin washer and started quilting.  Should I have put that silver thingy back after I had put in the bobbin washer?

Trapunto Quilting

Winter is here, and getting colder by the day.  So making time for sewing/quilting is hard, especially early mornings and evenings.  So I wait till the sun is warming up my little sewing space before I even think of doing any quilting.

I would sit behind my laptop having few too many cups of coffee searching for ideas on the internet.  It's a wonderful source of information, especially since every thing I've learnt and learning still comes from this huge library.  So I was looking at trapunto quilting, how to and ideas.

So I thought of trying it and decided to do a small or rather medium quilt using circles.

I used paisley FMQ design
Piecing this quilt was fast, simple and very quick.  I used scraps fabric for the circles.  I love how they 'pop' and it gives the quilt so much texture.  I'm about halfway done, and cant wait to bind it.  I plan on (if it comes out looking good) to put this on Kayleigh's wall.
Back of quilt
 Happy quilting.
