Can I brag a bit?

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

There is really not a lot I can say about this quilt, except that I loved every second I spent free motion quilting it.  If you'd like to read up on the process of how I made this little baby quilt, you can read about it herehere and here.

I quilted feathers and swirls free hand without any markings.  I had so much fun.  I'm most proud of this quilt, not because of the piecing or fabric, but the quilting.  It's probably NOT perfect, but hey, this is the first I've tried quilting feathers without any pre-marking and I really like the result.

I did cheat a bit, I didn't make binding for this quilt, instead I folded over the backing fabric and blanket stitched it instead of hand sewing it down.

I know the pictures are a lot, but I am still amazed that I DID IT, so I have to show off a bit, LOL...

I'm linking up to FMQ Friday with Leah Day @ The Free Motion Quilting Project.

Happy quilting.

The combination of swirls and feathers work so well together. I am blown away that you were able to get such symmetrical feathers without marking.

Do you start your feathers at the bottom or at the top loop? I have seen both methods and love how yours look. Kathy Aho

Nice finish, Marelize! Thanks for sharing with us and for including sew many photos. I don't think there can ever be too many of them! I love the feathers, too, but I also like how you did the half feather thing all around the edge like a frame. And the backing - WOW! Love it! Great job using it to turn for the binding, too. We are all impressed!

It is stunning, beautiful work. I want you to do it all again on a wholecloth so I can see ever perfect stitch. Bravo, and post another dozen photos as I'd be happy to see and you should be boasting more!

This turned out STUNNING! You should be proud! I love all of the pictures of it! The idea of just using the backing rather than binding is so clever, thanks for the inspiration!

It's beautiful!! I love the idea of folding over the backing rather than making a separate binding.

You have every right to brag! I love the way you combined feathers with swirls. So appropriate for the the soft texture of the fabric. Beautiful!

Your quilting is beautiful - definately worth a brag or two! Saw this on Flickr and had to come take a closer look. I see you did the feathers course with Angela Walters ... I have that on my 'to do' list - I did the negative space course with her on Craftsy and loved it. Congrats on a great quilt :)
