Quilted Cushion.. my first!

It was about a year ago that I pieced these blocks, and at the time I had no idea what I wanted to do with them.  There are four 15½ inch square blocks so I knew together it would not be large enough to make even a lap quilt.  So I stuck it in a bag, put it in a drawer and forgot about them.

During the past weekend I cleaned up my sewing room, and as I was going through my drawers I found them again, and immediately knew I wanted to try and make quilted cushions with them.

When it comes to making a quilt, I am quite comfortable, the steps now comes more naturally after doing it for more than a year.  But sewing in zippers?  I have never done it before, so I was going through pinterest looking for some easy to follow tutorials, and found THIS one, AND I only had one zipper to try it out, so for now I have only the one to share with you....

Happy quilting.

Love your cushions - and the fabrics. They are so much quicker to make than quilts, aren't they! I often make them for gifts.

Great job on your cushion. Zippers get easier. I just did my first one recently and liked it so much that I just bought a whole mess of zippers at Hancock's fabrics (on sale at half off). Congratulations on your accomplishment.

I agree... zippers definitely get easier! I have not done a ton of them but I am not afraid anymore :) Your pillow is lovely...I have never made a darn pillow yet. I am not sure why, and there are several I would love to make. One day I will bite the bullet and give it a go!

Love your cushions - I made my first quilted cushion as week or so ago but wasn't brave enough for zippers - may be next time.

I have lots of spare blocks that I need to add some borders to and make into pillows (or something!). Love the way yours turned out!

Love the cushion... I have made a few but sewed the entire thing closed because I am nervous about zippers... I really must try soon. Good job on yours.

Your cushions are wonderful!! I'm not very brave when it comes to zippers so I'm always impressed when people use them in cushions.

your pillow looks great, Marelize! I think your fabric choices are really classy! by the way, if you have a chance, you should grab my new NTT button. Since I redesigned my blog, your old one won't show up anymore! Thanks so much for sharing at Needle and Thread Thursday!

I've got some blocks I need to find a use for too. Your fabric choices were unusual, but I was drawn to the block, possibly because they were unusual and fresh looking.
